Yaw Ampofo Ankrah has been removed from his position as Director-General of Ghana’s National Sports Authority (NSA), following controversy surrounding an alleged visa facilitation arrangement connected to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The controversy centres on claims that more than US$600,000 was collected from individuals seeking assistance with visas for the tournament, with some applicants allegedly paying as much as US$8,000.

The allegations have led to a police investigation as authorities seek to establish what happened and determine whether any wrongdoing occurred.

The National Sports Authority has denied authorising the alleged visa arrangement or collecting money from applicants. The Authority has maintained that it was not responsible for the scheme described in the allegations.

The circumstances surrounding Mr. Ampofo Ankrah’s removal come as the investigation continues. Authorities are expected to establish the facts and determine whether any offences were committed.

It is important to note that the allegations remain under investigation and do not, by themselves, establish criminal liability against any individual.
