Professor Emmanuel Osei Sarpong has been named the Acting Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), following the suspension of Yaw Ampofo Ankrah.


Prof. Sarpong officially assumes the position on Thursday, October 1, 2026, and will oversee the operations and administration of Ghana’s state sports agency.

The new NSA chief is not new to the institution. He previously served on the Authority’s governing board and headed its Technical Committee before the board was dissolved in September.

Prof. Sarpong is an Associate Professor of Physical Education and Sports at the University of Education, Winneba. He also holds the position of Dean of Student Affairs at the university.

With a background spanning sports administration, physical education and grassroots sports development, Prof. Sarpong brings considerable experience to his new assignment as he takes charge of the NSA.
