Asante Kotoko ended an 11-year wait for victory over Hearts of Lions in the Ghana Premier League with a hard-fought 2-1 win, securing their first three points of the 2026/27 campaign.

The Porcupine Warriors took the lead in the 27th minute when Emmanuel Mamah finished clinically to put the hosts 1-0 ahead.

Kotoko maintained their dominance after the break and doubled their advantage in the 63rd minute through Opoku Agyemang, who calmly found the back of the net to make it 2-0.

Hearts of Lions’ task became even more difficult when they were reduced to 10 men following a red card, leaving them to play the closing stages with a numerical disadvantage.

Despite the setback, the Kpando-based side continued to fight and earned a late penalty in stoppage time. Francis Odoom converted from the spot to reduce the deficit to 2-1, but Kotoko held on to claim a deserved victory.

The result not only hands Kotoko their first win of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League campaign but also marks their first victory over Hearts of Lions since 2015, ending an 11-year winless run against the Kpando club.
