Ghana and Athletic Club forward Iñaki Williams has announced his retirement from international football, bringing an end to his four-year journey with the Black Stars.
The 32-year-old confirmed his decision in an emotional message, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to represent Ghana and reconnect with his roots. Williams said he will now focus on the final stage of his club career and his family, while continuing to support the Black Stars as a fan.
Williams switched his international allegiance to Ghana in 2022 after previously making one senior appearance for Spain in 2016. He made his Ghana debut in September 2022 and was subsequently selected for some of the country’s biggest international assignments.
His Black Stars career included appearances at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, as well as World Cup and AFCON qualifying campaigns.
Williams finished his Ghana career with 28 appearances and two goals which came goals came during Ghana’s 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign.
