Karela United broke the hearts of Accra Hearts of Oak with a dramatic 88th-minute winner at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium on Saturday afternoon, as Mohammed Zaidan calmly converted to secure all three points for the hosts.
It was an exciting display of football from both sides, with Karela United and Hearts of Oak creating several chances throughout the match. However, both teams struggled to find the cutting edge in front of goal until the closing stages.
With the game heading towards a goalless draw, Malik Abubakar produced a brilliant low cross into the box, finding Mohammed Zaidan in a promising position. The forward kept his composure and calmly slotted the ball home to give Karela United a late lead.
The defeat means Hearts of Oak have now failed to win in their last two matches after being held to a goalless draw by Bechem United in Matchweek 3.
The Phobians had been hoping to bounce back to winning ways, but Karela United, who had also suffered defeat to Aduana in Matchweek 3, had other plans as they secured a crucial victory on home soil.
The result marks Karela United’s second win of the season and gives them an important boost as the campaign progresses.
Karela United will face Asante Kotoko in Matchweek 5 in Kumasi, while Hearts of Oak travel to the Tuba Astro Turf to take on Dreams FC.
