The TotalEnergies CAF Champions League 2026/27 First Preliminary Round reaches its decisive stage this week, with several of Africa’s top clubs looking to secure their places in the Second Preliminary Round.
Pyramids FC, TP Mazembe, Simba SC, Al Hilal and Atlético Petróleos carry first-leg advantages into the return fixtures.
Pyramids have the strongest advantage after a 2-0 away win over Gor Mahia, while five-time African champions TP Mazembe take a 1-0 lead into their home clash with Ghanaian champions Medeama SC.
Simba SC also lead 1-0 against Mighty Wanderers, while Atlético Petróleos beat UD do Songo by the same scoreline. Al Hilal recorded an impressive 2-0 away win over Aigle Noir.
Zamalek hold a 2-1 advantage over AS Port, while Wiliete de Benguela and Maghreb de Fès recorded convincing 4-0 and 4-1 victories respectively.
One of the most intriguing ties sees South African giants Orlando Pirates host Mauritian debutants La Cure Waves after a goalless first leg.
The winners on aggregate will advance to the Second Preliminary Round, where some of Africa’s highest-ranked clubs await.
CAF has also confirmed a USD 100,000 subvention for clubs eliminated in the preliminary rounds, while the eventual Champions League winners will earn a record USD 6 million.
