Ghana’s Black Princesses strengthened their position in the group with a commanding 3-1 victory over South Korea in their second group-stage fixture.
Ghana dominated the early exchanges and looked dangerous going forward, with Agnes Yeboah coming close to breaking the deadlock after finding space in the South Korean defence. However, her effort was kept out by the goalkeeper.
Despite Ghana’s attacking intent, the Princesses were unable to convert their chances before the interval, with the two sides heading into the break level at 0-0.
The breakthrough finally arrived seven minutes after the restart when Sarah Nyarko produced a moment of individual brilliance, unleashing a powerful long-range effort to put Ghana ahead.
The Princesses quickly doubled their advantage three minutes later. Ivy Osei Owusu raced down the right flank before calmly lifting the ball over the goalkeeper to make it 2-0.
Ghana remained in control and continued to threaten on the counter, with substitute Ruth Amponsah putting the result beyond doubt in the 84th minute after finishing off a well-executed team move.
South Korea scored a consolation goal deep into stoppage time, but it was too little too late as Ghana secured all three points with a 3-1 win.
The victory gives the Black Princesses valuable momentum heading into their final group match against France on September 12, where they will aim to finish the group stage strongly.
