Asante Kotoko head coach Eric Tinkler has admitted that his side still has plenty of room for improvement despite securing a 2-1 victory over Heart of Lions on Sunday afternoon.
Kotoko ended an 11-year wait for a victory over the Kpando-based club, recording their first win against Lions since 2015.
On a rainy Sunday afternoon, the Porcupine Warriors secured all three points thanks to goals from Emmanuel Mamah and Opoku Agyemang, with the result also marking their first victory of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League campaign.
Speaking to the media after the game, Tinkler expressed satisfaction with his players’ overall performance but identified defensive frailties as an area that requires significant attention.
“Today’s performance is slightly better than our game away from home, but there is still a lot of work that needs to be done. Defensively, we struggled and we have to work on that,” he said.
The result gives Kotoko a confidence boost as they prepare for another difficult test on the road.
Asante Kotoko will travel to face FC Samartex in their Matchweek 3 fixture of the Ghana Premier League.
