FC Ashanti Gold and Asante Kotoko shared the spoils in a thrilling Ashanti Derby after spectacular long-range strikes from Samuel Fosu Boateng and Patrick Aseidu secured a 1-1 draw at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi on Sunday afternoon.
The Matchweek 8 encounter in the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League saw both sides produce moments of quality, with Fosu Boateng giving the hosts the lead before Aseidu restored parity for the Porcupine Warriors in the second half.
The contest was evenly balanced for much of the opening period until the 41st minute, when Fosu Boateng broke the deadlock with a long-range effort that took a deflection inside the Kotoko penalty area before finding the back of the net.
The goal handed FC Ashanti Gold the advantage heading into the break, leaving Kotoko with work to do in the second half.
The visitors returned from the interval with greater intensity, and the introductions of Walid Fuseini and forward Solomon Nsoh added fresh impetus to their attacking play.
Kotoko gradually took control and increased the pressure on the hosts, eventually earning a free-kick in a dangerous position after Adam Inusah was brought down just outside the penalty area.
Left-back Patrick Aseidu stepped up and unleashed a powerful strike that beat the goalkeeper, drawing Kotoko level and setting up a tense finish.
The Porcupine Warriors pushed forward in search of a winner, but FC Ashanti Gold’s defence stood firm, dealing with the visitors’ attacking threats to preserve a share of the points.
The hosts also had opportunities to regain the lead but were unable to convert their chances as both sides settled for a draw.
The result takes Asante Kotoko to 12 points after eight matches in the league, while FC Ashanti Gold maintain their unbeaten home record in the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League.
