The Ghana Football Association (GFA) and Gold Fields Ghana Limited have reaffirmed their commitment to Ghana’s Black Challenge ahead of the 2026 Amputee Football World Cup in Mexico, pledging continued support for the team’s quest for global success.

At a meeting with the players and officials at the Mendiata Hotel in Accra, both institutions expressed confidence in the African champions and urged them to represent Ghana with pride at the tournament.

Gold Fields Ghana has committed US$500,000 to the Black Challenge over two years as part of its broader US$5 million sponsorship agreement with the GFA, unveiled on May 8, 2026. The allocation provides dedicated financial support for amputee football.

Gold Fields Ghana Vice President and Managing Director Elliot Twum said the company was proud to be associated with the team and encouraged the players to build on their achievements.

“We have a lot of confidence in you, and that’s why we’re supporting you. We want to encourage you to do your best, and we have no doubt that you will give us a lot to cheer about,” he said.

GFA President Kurt Okraku assured the players of the association’s commitment, highlighting the collaboration with Gold Fields Ghana and National Paralympic Committee President Samson Deen to provide the necessary support for the team.

“Be rest assured that Ghana is with you. It is now your time to go and make us proud,” Okraku said.

Deen welcomed the partnership, describing the investment as a significant step towards addressing the long-standing need for greater corporate support for amputee football.

The Black Challenge head into the competition with an impressive continental record, having won the African Amputee Football Championship in 2021 and retained the title in 2024 with a 2-1 victory over Morocco in Cairo. Ghana also claimed gold at the inaugural African Para Games in Accra in 2023.

Ghana have been drawn in Group D alongside Angola, Colombia and Iraq. Angola, the 2018 world champions and 2022 runners-up, will pose a major challenge to the West Africans.

The 2026 Amputee Football World Cup will take place in San Juan de los Lagos, Mexico, from November 13 to 22, featuring 24 national teams.

With the GFA providing institutional backing and Gold Fields sustaining its financial commitment, the Black Challenge will be looking to convert the support into a strong showing on the global stage.
